A COVID-19 infection can be diagnosed from upper respiratory tract samples through the oropharynx and nasopharynx. Via the lower respiratory tract through samples from sputum and bronchial fluid. A samples of the upper respiratory tract; the oropharynx (throat) and nasopharynx (deep nose) swab, is easy to collect. The sample should be collected within the first few days of the onset of symptoms, as the RNA positive rate peaks 7 to 10 days after the onset of symptoms and then steadily declines. It is important to collect the swabs properly, by sampling from the posterior rhinopharyngeal tonsil area.
